Slay the Spire 2 1.0 release: Sep 2027Not announced: our best guess from Mega Crit's 1 to 2 year Early Access plan.
Best guessMega Crit's Early Access FAQ on Steam says it will stay in Early Access "Until the game feels great! Last time we thought it would be about a year and it took about 1.5 years. So perhaps in the same 1 - 2 year range." We count 18 months from the Mar 5, 2026 Early Access launch, as the first game took, to the first Thursday of Sep 2027 (Mega Crit ships on Thursdays) at 10 AM Pacific, the hour of the Early Access launch. Early Access and Roadmap

Slay the Spire 2 has been in Steam Early Access since Mar 5, 2026 and Mega Crit has announced no 1.0 date; its store page says Early Access may last 1 to 2 years and that the $24.99 price will rise afterward. Next on the roadmap are an Alternate Act 2 and a new character, then an Alternate Act 3, with a true ending, Steam achievements and console and mobile ports further off.

Slay the Spire 2 has no 1.0 release date: it has been in Steam Early Access since Mar 5, 2026, and Mega Crit's store page says Early Access should last "perhaps in the same 1 - 2 year range" as the first game's, which took about 1.5 years. The same page says "The price of the game will increase after Early Access", without naming the new price. Mega Crit's roadmap of Apr 17, 2026 lists an Alternate Act 2, a new character and an Alternate Act 3 as the next content, and puts a "True Victory", Steam achievements and ports to consoles and mobile further off. In August 2026 the team said it was "actively" working on the Alternate Act 2 and the new character, and its latest post, the September 2026 Neowsletter, teased a new area of the Spire but still gave no timeline.

Mega Crit's Early Access FAQ

The store page answers four questions in Mega Crit's own words. Why Early Access: "Slay the Spire requires a lot of player feedback so we can balance content, add quality of life features, and make sure the game runs without issues," and it is "also a chance for us to test experimental features, try exotic designs, identify niche problems".

How long it will last: "Until the game feels great! Last time we thought it would be about a year and it took about 1.5 years. So perhaps in the same 1 - 2 year range." The first game, Slay the Spire, entered Early Access in late 2017 and reached 1.0 on Jan 23, 2019. Mega Crit's pinned Steam FAQ gives the same range. That is a range, not a date: Mega Crit has named no month or year for 1.0.

What 1.0 adds, per the store page: "more gameplay content, a true ending, various game modes, improved balance, a ton of bug fixes, greater hardware compatibility, fancier visual effects, and the game will be available in more languages."

What happens to the price: "The price of the game will increase after Early Access." It costs $24.99, the same as the first game at launch, per Mega Crit's FAQ, and no 1.0 price has been announced. Mega Crit gathers feedback mainly on its Discord server, on social media and through "anonymized metrics and an in-game feedback tool" (F2 in game).

Casey Yano has explained why there is no date. In the April 2026 Neowsletter he wrote: "Exacting deadlines produce sloppy uninspired work and I don't want Sloppy Spire 2, I want Slay the Spire 2." He added that the studio will not "massively expand the size of the studio to finish the game faster."

The roadmap (Apr 17, 2026)

Mega Crit published its roadmap in the April 2026 Neowsletter in three groups. The table shows each item and its status as Mega Crit gave it in the August 2026 Neowsletter.

The August update also listed the Badge and Score system and "many new cards and relics" as done. Badges reached the main branch in Major Update #1 on Apr 17, 2026, and are covered on Achievements and Badges.

What is done

Since launch Mega Crit has shipped two main-branch Major Updates and a string of betas, each listed on Patches and Updates. The roadmap items finished so far are Steam Workshop support (see Mods and Steam Workshop), the Bestiary in the Compendium, Badges with friends-only leaderboards, and Phobia Mode, an accessibility setting that redraws creepy enemies (v0.100.0). On the beta branch only, v0.109.0 added Traditional Chinese and v0.110.0 a keyboard-only mode.

No character and no act has been added since launch. The roster is still the five launch characters on Characters, and the acts are still the three on Acts and the Map, per Mega Crit's August 2026 Neowsletter.

What is in progress

The Alternate Act 2 is the next act. Mega Crit promised before launch that the alternate Acts 2b and 3b "will come later down the road in Early Access updates"; today only Act 1 has two versions, the Overgrowth and the Underdocks. Each alternate act differs "radically in their environments, enemies, events, and bosses," Mega Crit wrote.

A sixth character is in development, unnamed. Mega Crit has shown no name, kit or art for it, and the Watcher from the first game is not in Slay the Spire 2.

Experimental game modes are in work too. In April 2026 Casey Yano described three possible modes, per Rock Paper Shotgun: one competitive, one for players short on time and one social, with no promise that all of them would ship. The existing modes are on Daily Climb and Custom Mode.

The true ending is last. In Early Access every run ends at the Architect, and the store page promises "a true ending" for 1.0; the roadmap calls it "True Victory".

The September 2026 tease and the patch pause

Mega Crit slowed its updates in August 2026 to build bigger content. The last beta, v0.111.0 on Aug 14, 2026, warned "there may be a longer wait in general for the next patch, as we've shifted our focus to some BIG, much-anticipated pieces of content," and the team took its annual break in the last week of August.

The September 2026 Neowsletter (Sep 25) said "we still can't give a specific timeline or details for the next patch." Its "Spire Spotting" teased an unrevealed area of the Spire with the silhouette of "some sort of small, floating, excitable being," with guesses due by Oct 8, 2026. Mega Crit has posted no patch or newsletter since (Oct 26, 2026).

How the beta branch works

Mega Crit tests changes on an opt-in public beta before they reach everyone. The branch opened with v0.99 on Mar 13, 2026; to join it, open the Steam Library, right-click Slay the Spire 2, choose Properties, then Game Versions and Betas, and pick "public-beta". Choosing the default again returns to the main branch.

Beta changes reach the main branch in batches. Major Update #1 (v0.103.2, Apr 17, 2026) brought the betas v0.100.0 to v0.103.1, and Major Update #2 (v0.107.1, Jun 19, 2026) brought v0.104.0 to v0.107.0, "4 patches in 1". The betas v0.108.0 to v0.111.0 had not reached the main branch by Oct 26, 2026.

Mega Crit releases on Thursdays so problems can be fixed on Friday, Casey Yano explained in the April 2026 Neowsletter. Betas moved from weekly to every two weeks in May 2026; the v0.105.0 notes recall that "the first game patched weekly, but it was a lot of work so it really sucked."

Consoles, mobile and other platforms

Slay the Spire 2 is on Steam only, for Windows, macOS and Linux, and no console or mobile version has been announced. Mega Crit's FAQ says those versions likely come after Early Access ends, and the roadmap lists them under "Further off in the Future".

Mega Crit has commented on single platforms without confirming any. On a Switch 2 port, Casey Yano said in June 2025: "If the console's popular and there's demand we'll port!", and called it "not a true confirmation." Touchscreen controls will "likely be part of the push for mobile ports," he said in August 2026. Mega Crit aims for "some form of cross-platform saving" but will not give buyers on other platforms an "unlock all" button.

It plays on Steam Deck, which Steam rates Verified. It is not on Game Pass, per PCGamesN. Hardware details are on PC Requirements and Steam Deck.
