Daily Climb and Custom Mode
Besides Standard runs, Slay the Spire 2 has Daily runs, one shared run a day with a fixed character, Ascension and three modifiers, ranked on a friends-only leaderboard, and Custom runs, where you pick from 16 modifiers such as Draft, Flight, Midas or Murderous. Neither earns Epochs. Phobia Mode is a setting that redraws creepy enemies; Mega Crit is working on new experimental modes, none released yet.
Slay the Spire 2 has three ways to start a run: Standard, the normal climb; Daily, one run a day that every player gets with the same preset character, Ascension and three modifiers, such as Draft, Sealed Deck or Flight (PCGamesN, Mar 15, 2026); and Custom, where you set the rules yourself from a list of 16 modifiers (Spire Codex, game data v0.107.1). Daily and Custom are unlocked on the Timeline, and since v0.100.0 neither can earn Epochs (v0.100.0 notes). Daily results go on a leaderboard of your Steam friends, sorted by whether you won, then by Badges, then by time. Mega Crit is also working on "Experimental game modes" (Mega Crit's August 2026 Neowsletter), but none has been released in Early Access.

Unlocking Daily and Custom
Both modes are Epochs on the Timeline. The Daily is revealed by playing "a single run with all characters" and beating Act 3, and its text reads "Unlocked game mode: Daily"; the Epoch named Seeds is revealed by beating Act 3 three times and reads "Unlocked game mode: Custom" (Spire Codex, game data v0.107.1). Destructoid's Epoch guide (Mar 7, 2026) gives the same goals. Every Epoch is on Unlocks and the Timeline.
Runs in these modes do not unlock anything. Since v0.100.0, on the main branch since Apr 17, 2026, "You can no longer acquire epochs in Daily or Custom runs", "Certain character stats no longer update in Daily or Custom runs", and the game shows a disclaimer before you start (v0.100.0 notes). Since v0.103.0 the "Ascension unlocked" text no longer appears in them either (v0.103.0 notes).
Daily runs
A Daily run is the same run for everyone that day. PCGamesN's Ken Allsop describes each as having a preset character and Ascension level and three modifiers, naming Draft (build a 10-card starting deck from three-card drafts), Sealed Deck (build a 10-card deck from 30 options) and Flight (move anywhere on the map) (PCGamesN, Mar 15, 2026). His runs included a 16-card Ironclad Block deck finished off with Body Slam and a Silent discard deck holding five copies of Abrasive.
The leaderboard shows your friends. Casey Yano changed it in April 2026 so that "the leaderboards will now only show your friends' scores", sorted by "whether you won, how many badges you accrued, and how quickly you finished the run (in that order)", with floor, Badge count and time on screen instead of a score (v0.103.0 notes; Major Update #1). He gave the reason: Mega Crit does not "want to incorporate invasive anti-cheat protection", so it cannot stop people posting the maximum score. Since Major Update #2 you can also see the scores near your own (Major Update #2). Badges and scoring are on Achievements and Badges.
Dailies can be played in co-op. A launch-month fix let players load into a "Daily multiplayer run" (v0.103.1 notes), and Mega Crit has kept fixing "daily runs diverging based on player network ID" so every player gets the same run (Major Update #2); on the public beta since v0.108.0 (Jul 3, 2026), "Event RNG seeds are now consistent across all multiplayer Daily Runs" (v0.108.0 notes). See Co-op Multiplayer.
Main-branch and beta players race separately. Since April 2026 "leaderboards between main branch and beta branch will be separate" (Major Update #1).
Custom mode and every modifier
Custom mode lets you build a run from modifiers. The main-branch game data lists 16; the three PCGamesN names from Daily runs, Draft, Sealed Deck and Flight, are among them:
| Modifier | Effect |
|---|---|
| All Star | Start with 5 colorless cards |
| Big Game Hunter | Elite enemies swarm the Spire and drop better rewards |
| Binary | Card rewards contain only 2 cards |
| Cursed Run | At the start of each Act, add a random Curse to your deck |
| Deadly Events | Unknown rooms can contain Elites, but are also more likely to contain Treasure rooms |
| Draft | Choose 10 card rewards to replace your starting deck |
| Flight | You may ignore paths when choosing the next room to travel to |
| Hoarder | Whenever you add a card to your deck, add 2 more copies; you can no longer remove cards at the Merchant |
| Insanity | Start with a random deck of 30 cards |
| Midas | Enemies drop 200% more Gold, but you can no longer Smith at Rest Sites |
| Murderous | You and all enemies start each combat with 3 Strength |
| Night Terrors | Resting at Rest Sites heals all your HP but costs 5 Max HP |
| Sealed Deck | Choose 10 of 30 cards to replace your starting deck |
| Specialized | Start with 5 copies of a single card |
| Terminal | Lose 1 Max HP whenever you enter a new room; start each combat with 5 Plating |
| Vintage | Normal enemies drop relics instead of cards |

Patches have made some modifiers safer. Since Major Update #2, "Terminal run modifier can no longer bring a player below 1 HP", "The Night Terrors modifier can no longer kill you", the Terminal Max HP loss no longer sets off the Self-Forming Clay relic, and Sealed Deck works with the modifiers that mix in other characters' cards (Major Update #2).
The public beta adds a Randomize button. Since v0.108.0 (Jul 3, 2026) it "randomly selects 2 good modifiers and 1 bad one, and randomizes the selected character", and Big Game Hunter's tooltip now says Elites "drop rare card rewards instead of just 'better rewards'" (v0.108.0 notes).
Seeds
Every run has a seed. Mega Crit engineer Ed Lu explained in June 2026 that "Each run has one primary 'run seed', a sequence of twelve numbers and letters", from which separate random generators for draws, rewards and events take their own seeds (Major Update #2). Those generators turned out to be correlated, so one part of a run could predict another (an Underdocks first act made some Neow's Bones curses far more likely), and v0.107.1 replaced the generator with xoshiro256**, crediting player tckmn's investigation.
The public beta changed seeds again. v0.109.0 (Jul 17, 2026) notes that "Seeds are now 12 characters long and internal seed is larger" (v0.109.0 notes). Seeded races are a community format: Mega Crit promoted the 7th Cat Food Cup (Aug 8 to Aug 30, 2026), in which two players run "the exact same seed" with two save-load chances each (Mega Crit's August 2026 Neowsletter). See Records and Speedruns.
Phobia Mode and accessibility
Phobia Mode swaps out creepy art. Mega Crit added it in v0.100.0 as "a Phobia Mode with bespoke assets that should mitigate various creepy phobia concerns", a tickbox in Settings, with new visuals for the Hive backgrounds, The Insatiable, Phrog Parasite, Wrigglers, Terror Eel and Entomancer, and a still Infection overlay (v0.100.0 notes); it reached the main branch on Apr 17, 2026. Major Update #2 added art for Fossil Stalker, Haunted Ship, Skulking Colony, The Obscura, Twig Slime M and the Zen Weaver event (Major Update #2).
Other accessibility options are listed on Steam. The store shows a Mouse Only Option, Playable without Timed Input, Custom Volume Controls, full controller support and Save Anytime (Steam), and on the public beta since v0.110.0 (Jul 31, 2026) there is a keyboard-only mode (v0.110.0 notes). See PC Requirements and Steam Deck.
Modes in development
Mega Crit has described new modes but released none. Casey Yano told PC Gamer in April 2026 that the team was exploring a competitive mode, a short-session format and a social mode, cautioning "they might not make it at all" (PCGamesN, Apr 5, 2026). "Experimental game modes" are on the April 2026 roadmap and were still "actively" in work in August (Mega Crit's April 2026 Neowsletter; August 2026 Neowsletter), and the September 2026 Neowsletter says the team "resumed work on tons of secret features, game modes, content" (Mega Crit). The roadmap is on Early Access and Roadmap.
An endless mode is unlikely. Asked in April 2026, Yano answered: "Probably not, the deckbuilding gets less exciting the longer a run goes on" (Mega Crit's April 2026 Neowsletter). PCGamesN lists a community mod, Infinite Mode, that chains three-act chapters at rising Ascension (PCGamesN); see Mods and Steam Workshop.

Unlocks and the TimelineSlay the Spire 2 unlocks its characters in a chain by playing one run (win or lose) with each: the Ironclad unlocks the Silent, then the Regent, the Necrobinder and the Defect. Everything else (cards, relics, potions, Ancients, the Underdocks, Ascension, Daily and Custom runs) comes from 57 Epochs on the Timeline, earned by goals such as beating an act or by spending score; Daily and Custom runs earn none.
-
Achievements and BadgesSlay the Spire 2 has no Steam achievements yet; asked when they come, Casey Yano answered "The v1.0 release." In Early Access its stand-in is Badges, 23 end-of-run awards such as Flawless (beat a boss without losing HP) or Speedy (win in under 50 minutes), which also rank Daily leaderboards: by win, then Badge count, then time, among Steam friends.
-
Co-op MultiplayerSlay the Spire 2 has online co-op for up to 4 players, Steam friends only with no matchmaking: one player hosts and the others join, everyone shares the map and fights the same enemies, which scale with the party, while each player keeps their own character, HP, deck, relics and rewards. Co-op has its own multiplayer-only cards and its own Ascension progress. -
Records and SpeedrunsAs of Oct 26, 2026 neither Mega Crit nor the gaming press has reported a Slay the Spire 2 speedrun world record or a verified win-streak record; the records on file are Mega Crit's own (3 million sold in a week, 240 million runs by May 2026) and SteamDB's 574,638 concurrent players on Mar 8, 2026. The best-known competitions are the Devour the Tower co-op tournament (May 25, 2026) and China's 7th Cat Food Cup (Aug 8 to 30, 2026).

PC Requirements and Steam DeckSlay the Spire 2 needs at least 64-bit Windows 10, a dual-core 2.0 GHz CPU, 4 GB of RAM, a DirectX 12 or Vulkan GPU with 1 GB of VRAM and 4 GB of storage, and runs natively on macOS 12 and later and on Linux; Steam recommends a quad-core 3.0 GHz CPU, 8 GB of RAM and 2 GB of VRAM. It is Steam Deck Verified, has full controller and mouse-only support, and ships in 14 languages.

Early Access and RoadmapSlay the Spire 2 has been in Steam Early Access since Mar 5, 2026 and Mega Crit has announced no 1.0 date; its store page says Early Access may last 1 to 2 years and that the $24.99 price will rise afterward. Next on the roadmap are an Alternate Act 2 and a new character, then an Alternate Act 3, with a true ending, Steam achievements and console and mobile ports further off.
