Slay the Spire 2 1.0 release: Sep 2027Not announced: our best guess from Mega Crit's 1 to 2 year Early Access plan.
Best guessMega Crit's Early Access FAQ on Steam says it will stay in Early Access "Until the game feels great! Last time we thought it would be about a year and it took about 1.5 years. So perhaps in the same 1 - 2 year range." We count 18 months from the Mar 5, 2026 Early Access launch, as the first game took, to the first Thursday of Sep 2027 (Mega Crit ships on Thursdays) at 10 AM Pacific, the hour of the Early Access launch. Enemies

Slay the Spire 2's normal enemies differ in each of its four areas (the Overgrowth and Underdocks in Act 1, the Hive in Act 2 and Glory in Act 3), with HP that rises at Ascension 8 and damage that rises at Ascension 9. The in-game Bestiary, added in v0.105.0, shows the moves of every monster you have met.

Slay the Spire 2's enemies are set by area: Act 1 is either the Overgrowth or the Underdocks, each with its own monsters, Act 2 is the Hive and Act 3 is Glory, and each area has its own normal fights, three Elites and three Bosses. This page lists the normal enemies of every area with their HP and moves, the secret and event fights (the Fake Merchant, the Mysterious Knight and others), how Ascension 8 and 9 make enemies tougher, and the in-game Bestiary. The game is in Early Access, so Mega Crit keeps adjusting its monsters; numbers are the main branch's (v0.107.1, Jun 19, 2026) unless a line says otherwise.

How to read the tables

Numbers follow Mega Crit's own notation: the base value, then in parentheses the value at the Ascension level that raises it. HP rises at Ascension 8 and damage at Ascension 9: Mega Crit's v0.100.0 notes describe a Nibbit's Block scaling "from 5 -> 6 on A8" and its Strength "from 2 -> 3 Strength on A9". A range such as "42-46" means the game rolls the HP within it. "x3" means the hit repeats three times.

The moves and HP come from OP.GG's monster guides, which read the game data of the public beta v0.111.0 (Aug 14, 2026). Where a beta patch changed an enemy after the main branch's v0.107.1, the line says so. Which enemies come together in each fight is Mobalytics' encounter list.

Overgrowth enemies (Act 1)

The Overgrowth is "a lush, tangled ruin" of woodland creatures and "sentient flora that might just eat you alive", in Mega Crit's words (Sep 11, 2025). The Ruby Raiders' Assassin was cut from 11 (12) to 10 (11) damage in v0.104.0, on the main branch since Major Update #2. The same update made the Inklets' and the boss Vantom's Slippery keep its stack when a hit is fully blocked. On the public beta since v0.108.0 (Jul 3, 2026), you can no longer get two Slime fights in a row, or two Snapping Jaxfruit fights in a row.

Several Underdocks fights changed on the way to the main branch. v0.100.0 turned the Calcified Cultist plus Toadpole fight into Calcified Cultist plus Seapunk, and v0.103.0 stopped the Living Fog from spawning more bombs over time. Major Update #2 removed the Haunted Ship's Ramming Speed, reordered the Punch Construct's moves and switched its debuff from Weak to Frail, and changed the Gremlin Merc's payout: if the Merc stole no Gold but the Fat Gremlin escaped, you now get 50% of the normal Gold reward instead of nothing. The two-tailed rat was the "mystery monster" of Mega Crit's January 2026 Neowsletter.

Hive enemies (Act 2)

Every run's Act 2 is the Hive, which Game Rant (Mar 12, 2026) calls "significantly more dangerous" than either Act 1 area. Its fights, per Mobalytics: Bowlbug Duo, Bowlbug Trio (three mixes), Chompers, Exoskeleton Pack, Exoskeleton Trio, Hunter Killer, Louse Progenitor, Mytes, Ovicopter, Spiny Toad, The Obscura, Thieving Hopper, Tunneler, and Bowlbug (Egg) with Tunneler.

The Exoskeleton's Ascension 8 HP is 26-30 on the public beta since v0.111.0 (Aug 14, 2026). The "Tunneling Twosome" fight left the Hive in v0.103.0. PC Gamer's Evan Lahti summed up the Myte fight in PC Gamer's Sep 18, 2026 panel: "unload these stupid Toxic cards, block for another 10-20, and oh right, hit these guys".

Glory enemies (Act 3)

Glory, Act 3, belongs to the Spire's "upper stratas", where Game Rant warns "even a normal combat encounter here can spell the end of a run". Source: OP.GG monster guides (game data, beta v0.111.0), read Oct 26, 2026; encounters from Mobalytics, read Oct 26, 2026.

The Axebots fight became a single, more challenging Axebot in v0.104.0, on the main branch since Major Update #2. The Axebot numbers above are the beta's: v0.111.0 changed it so it gains 10 Max HP each time it respawns, and OP.GG's Hammer Uppercut of 14 (18) matches that beta. The Fabricator's bots lost 5 HP each in v0.100.0, and the same patch made The Forgotten deal 1 extra damage for every point of Dexterity it has.

Secret and event fights

Some fights come from events or actions rather than the map. Each is listed below with its trigger.

Fight How it starts Notes
The Merchant??? (Fake Merchant) Throw a Foul Potion at him 165 HP, attacks for about 9 to 20; drops his whole relic stock, his rug and 300 Gold
Mysterious Knight The Lantern Key (Hive event), "Keep the Key" A Flail Knight: 101 HP, Ram 15, Flail 9 x2, War Chant +3 Strength
Battle Friend V1.0, V2.0, V3.0 Battleworn Dummy (Glory event) 75, 150 and 300 HP, Time Limit 3, do nothing; defeat it in 3 turns
Two Punch Constructs Punch Off (Underdocks event), "I Can Take Them" Fight them "for Greater Rewards"
Ambush Dense Vegetation (Overgrowth event), "Rest" Heal, then fight some enemies

Sources: TheGamer: Fake Merchant Secret Boss Fight (Collin MacGregor, Mar 17, 2026); OP.GG pages for the Mysterious Knight, Battle Friend V1.0, Battleworn Dummy, Punch Off and Dense Vegetation (v0.111.0), read Oct 26, 2026.

The Fake Merchant is the best known. Foul Potions come only from the Potion Courier event, and thrown at the real Merchant each one pays 100 Gold, per OP.GG's potion list; TheGamer explains how one starts the fight with "The Merchant???" instead. His relics are weaker copies marked "???", such as Anchor??? (4 Block) and Venerable Tea Set??? (+1 Energy). See Merchant and Rest Sites.

Bosses and the end of the climb

Each area has three bosses, shown on the map from the start of the act; they are on Bosses. At Ascension 10 (Double Boss) you fight two bosses at the end of Act 3, per PCGamesN. Mega Crit replaced the Act 3 boss Doormaker with Aeonglass on the main branch on Jun 19, 2026.

Spoiler note: this paragraph names the run's last encounter. After Act 3 the climb ends at the Architect, who kills you before you can play a card; PCGamesN (Mar 11, 2026) says "No, you cannot beat The Architect". OP.GG's data lists him with 9999 HP and a single "Nothing" move.

Ascension 8 and 9

Two Ascension levels change the enemies themselves. Ascension 8, Tough Enemies, reads "All enemies are harder to kill", and Ascension 9, Deadly Enemies, "All enemies have deadlier attacks", per PCGamesN's Ascension list (Mar 10, 2026). In practice each enemy has its own Ascension value, which is the number in parentheses in the tables above: a Mawler goes from 72 to 76 HP at Ascension 8, and its Rip and Tear from 14 to 16 damage at Ascension 9.

Mega Crit has been widening the gap between low and high Ascension. In v0.104.0 (Apr 24, 2026) it said the base difficulty "is quite hard right now" and that it was slowly making lower Ascensions a little easier and high ones slightly harder; several later changes, such as Vantom's Slippery of 8 (9), only touch one side.

Co-op scaling

In Co-op Multiplayer, enemies get more HP and damage for each player while your own stats stay the same, per TheGamer (Mar 14, 2026). PC Gamer (Mar 24, 2026) adds that enemy attacks hit the whole party. On the public beta since v0.108.0, enemy Block scales less in 2-player games.

The Bestiary

The Bestiary is the Compendium screen that shows the monsters you have met, their moves and their animations. It arrived on the public beta in v0.105.0 (May 8, 2026), where pressing keys 1 to 8 on a monster plays its animations, and reached the main branch with Major Update #2 on Jun 19, 2026. Casey Yano called it the "final screen in the compendium (outside of the Achievements page, which is to come much later)". A stats section followed on the beta in v0.108.0.

Phobia Mode

Phobia Mode gives some creepy enemies alternate visuals. Mega Crit added it in v0.100.0 (Mar 20, 2026) for monsters including The Insatiable, the Phrog Parasite, Wrigglers, the Terror Eel and the Entomancer.
