Slay the Spire 2 1.0 release: Sep 2027Not announced: our best guess from Mega Crit's 1 to 2 year Early Access plan.
Best guessMega Crit's Early Access FAQ on Steam says it will stay in Early Access "Until the game feels great! Last time we thought it would be about a year and it took about 1.5 years. So perhaps in the same 1 - 2 year range." We count 18 months from the Mar 5, 2026 Early Access launch, as the first game took, to the first Thursday of Sep 2027 (Mega Crit ships on Thursdays) at 10 AM Pacific, the hour of the Early Access launch. Bosses

Slay the Spire 2 has 12 bosses in Early Access, three per act: Ceremonial Beast, The Kin and Vantom (Overgrowth), Lagavulin Matriarch, Soul Fysh and Waterfall Giant (Underdocks), Kaiser Crab, Knowledge Demon and The Insatiable (Hive), and Aeonglass, Queen and Test Subject (Glory).

Slay the Spire 2 has 12 bosses in Early Access, three for each of its four act maps: the Ceremonial Beast, The Kin and Vantom in the Overgrowth; the Lagavulin Matriarch, Soul Fysh and the Waterfall Giant in the Underdocks; the Kaiser Crab, the Knowledge Demon and The Insatiable in the Hive; and Aeonglass, the Queen and the Test Subject in Glory. Each run meets one boss per act, three in all (four at Ascension 10), and the map shows which one waits at the end of the act from its first floor. Game Rant counted the same twelve at launch, with the Doormaker where Aeonglass is now; Mega Crit swapped them on the main branch on Jun 19, 2026.

Every boss

Every boss in the main branch v0.107.1 is in the table below. HP is written base(Ascension 8 and above), as OP.GG's data and Mega Crit write it, because Ascension 8 ("Tough Enemies") raises enemy HP; Ascension 9 raises their damage. See Ascension.

Source: OP.GG monster guides (game data, public beta v0.111.0), read Oct 26, 2026, with main-branch values from Mega Crit's patch notes where a beta changed them (Soul Fysh's De-Gas, 16(18) on the beta since v0.111.0; Aeonglass's Ebb, 22(26) on the beta since v0.109.0).

Act 1 bosses: the Overgrowth

Ceremonial Beast

The Ceremonial Beast is a charge you must break. It opens with Stamp, gaining Plow 150(160), then hits for 18(20) and gains 2 Strength every turn until you deal that much damage and stun it; after that it cycles Beast Cry, Stomp 15(17) and Crush 17(19). Game Rant says it "is a simple enemy at first, but once its health drops, it will start inflicting some seriously debilitating debuffs". Casey Yano wrote in the June 2026 Neowsletter that it was based on the Forest Spirit from Princess Mononoke and was probably the game's first boss design, from 2021.

The Kin

The Kin is a Kin Priest and two Kin Followers. Game Rant describes a priest who applies debuffs while the minions buff their own Strength; the priest has 190 HP and each follower 58 or 59, and the followers are Minions.

Vantom

Vantom punishes big single hits. Its Slippery 8 (9 at Ascension 9) turns each of the next 8 hits into 1 damage, so PC Gamer's Abigail Shannon tells you to "maximize the number of hits you're getting on Vantom, rather than how much damage you're dealing with each attack" and calls it the toughest of the three Overgrowth bosses. She recommends multi-hit cards like Twin Strike and an Attack Potion, then Block for Dismember; Game Rant names the Regent's Stardust. Major Update #2 made it easier below Ascension 9 and stopped fully blocked hits from removing Slippery.

Act 1 bosses: the Underdocks

Lagavulin Matriarch

The Lagavulin Matriarch drains your stats while it hides behind Block. Game Rant says it "has a tendency to turtle up with high amounts of Block while building up Strength and inflicting Strength and Dexterity debuffs"; each Soul Siphon takes 2 Strength and 2 Dexterity from every player.

Soul Fysh

Soul Fysh hurts you through your own hand. Its Beckon cards deal damage to you if they are in your hand at the end of your turn, per Game Rant, and Fade gives it 2 Intangible. v0.105.0 raised its Scream from 11(12) to 13(15).

Waterfall Giant

The Waterfall Giant's last move is its most dangerous. Its Steam Eruption grows with every move it makes, and when it dies the eruption goes off; Game Rant says to keep enough HP or Block to survive it, and that in co-op only one player must. v0.101.0 cut its HP from 250(260) to 240(250).

Act 2 bosses: the Hive

Kaiser Crab

The Kaiser Crab is two claws, Crusher and Rocket, on either side of you. Game Rant's advice: "you need to face the claw with the highest damage value. Players will take more damage from claws that hit them from behind." v0.100.0 raised both claws' HP by 10 and their Rage Strength from 5 to 6.

Knowledge Demon

The Knowledge Demon is a race against its healing and curses. Game Rant calls it "a straight-up DPS check. Not only does the boss heal itself after a set number of turns, but it inflicts curses that have some seriously punishing effects." At 379 HP it is the sturdiest single monster outside Act 3.

The Insatiable

The Insatiable kills you on a timer. Its Liquify Ground adds 6 Frantic Escape cards, its Sandpit power tells you the turn it will eat you, and Game Rant says playing Frantic Escape delays that turn. Mega Crit confirmed that Poison resolves before it tries to eat you (v0.103.0) and that Fairy in a Bottle does not save you from it (Major Update #1).

Act 3 bosses: Glory

Aeonglass

Aeonglass is the newest boss and, to PC Gamer's writers, the hardest. Harvey Randall called it "a bit of a DPS race, pumping Wither curses into your hand that deal damage to you", and on PC Gamer's Sep 18, 2026 panel Austin Wood called it "markedly harder" than the other Act 3 bosses while Evan Lahti said it "punishes you for being too all-in on shiv". PCGamesN wrote after its May rework that it could "completely halt a run in its tracks".

Queen

The Queen debuffs the whole party and fights beside a heavy hitter. Her You Are Mine applies 99 Frail, 99 Weak and 99 Vulnerable to all players, and Game Rant says she "starts the fight with a minion who deals a ton of damage", the Torch Head Amalgam (199 HP). On the beta since v0.109.0 the Amalgam opens with a Strong Tackle of 26(32).

Test Subject

The Test Subject keeps coming back. Game Rant calls it "a three-phase boss fight, with each fight featuring different mechanics"; OP.GG's data gives its first form 100(111) HP, then Respawn into forms with Multi-Claw, Lacerate, Big Pounce 45 and Burning Growl. No source we use gives the later forms' HP.

The removed Doormaker

The Doormaker was an Act 3 boss from launch on Mar 5, 2026 until Jun 19, 2026. In its launch form, PC Gamer's Abigail Shannon wrote, you first fought a Door with 155 HP; killing it brought out the Doormaker (489 HP), stunned for a turn, which attacked for two turns, then left and summoned a new Door with 20 more HP. Game Rant noted that each new Door came back without status effects, which countered Poison and Doom decks.

Mega Crit reworked it four times before giving up. Patches v0.100.0 through v0.103.0 changed it, and in v0.104.0 Mega Crit said millions of runs showed it "slightly weaker than the other Act 3 bosses both in kill rate and damage dealt". v0.105.0 replaced it with Aeonglass on the beta (May 8, 2026), because it "was over the complexity threshold of what we want and had lingering issues", and Major Update #2 did so on the main branch. Casey Yano's footnote: "Doormaker isn't a Worm reference, I was playing too much Deadlock."

Ascension 10: the double boss

At Ascension 10, Double Boss, you fight two bosses at the end of Act 3. PCGamesN gives the level's text as "Fight two bosses at the end of Act 3", and TheGamer confirms Acts 1 and 2 keep one boss. Ten is the top level: Casey Yano wrote on Aug 14, 2026 that "Ascension 10 is close to the highest difficulty we'll have for the game." No source we use says how the second boss is picked.

Other fights that feel like bosses

Two event fights are optional boss-like battles. Throwing a Foul Potion at the Merchant starts a fight with a fake one, "The Merchant???", who has 165 health and pays out his whole relic stock, his rug and 300 Gold, per TheGamer; keeping the Lantern Key in the Hive means fighting the Mysterious Knight, a 101 HP Flail Knight (OP.GG). See Merchant and Rest Sites and Events.

How to beat bosses

Build for the boss you can see. The boss icon is on the map from the start of each act, and PC Gamer's Harvey Randall says that means every boss can be prepared for, unlike the first game's Act 3 surprises. Shannon gives the same advice for Vantom.

Match the boss's rule. Multi-hit attacks break Vantom's Slippery, enough HP or Block survives the Waterfall Giant's blast, Frantic Escape buys time against The Insatiable, and facing the strongest claw limits the Kaiser Crab's back attacks, per the guides above.

Save potions for the boss. Shannon recommends an Attack Potion for Vantom and aggressive relics and Attack Potions for the old Doormaker; the Potions page lists them. The Elites page covers the fights before each boss, and Co-op Strategy covers bosses with friends, where Mobalytics notes enemies scale with party size (Vantom needs double the hits to break Slippery).
