Slay the Spire 2 1.0 release: Sep 2027Not announced: our best guess from Mega Crit's 1 to 2 year Early Access plan.
Best guessMega Crit's Early Access FAQ on Steam says it will stay in Early Access "Until the game feels great! Last time we thought it would be about a year and it took about 1.5 years. So perhaps in the same 1 - 2 year range." We count 18 months from the Mar 5, 2026 Early Access launch, as the first game took, to the first Thursday of Sep 2027 (Mega Crit ships on Thursdays) at 10 AM Pacific, the hour of the Early Access launch. Enchantments and Afflictions

Enchantments are run-long bonuses added to single cards in Slay the Spire 2 (22 in the game data of v0.107.1, such as Corrupted, Glam and Sharp), mostly from events, shop relics and Ancients, and they never stack. Afflictions are their opposite: temporary penalties enemies put on your cards, such as Ringing, Bound and Smog.

Slay the Spire 2 has 22 enchantments in the game data of v0.107.1, the current main branch: modifiers that Mega Crit describes as "applied for the duration of that run" to single cards in your deck, such as Corrupted (50% more damage for 2 HP) or Glam (Replay once per combat). Afflictions are the reverse: enemies "Afflict" your cards, in Mega Crit's words, "in all sorts of mean ways", for a turn or a fight. Both are new in the sequel. Mega Crit's FAQ lists them first among its new systems, "Enchantments, afflictions, Ancients, and alternate acts". The game is in Steam Early Access, so both lists can still change.

How enchantments work

An enchantment adds an effect to one card for the rest of the run. Casey Yano's February 2025 Neowsletter introduced them as "modifiers to cards in your deck" that last the whole run, and says "Enchanted cards have a little icon and additional effects are added to the card in purple."

Common enchantments are small and rare ones can carry a run. In the same Neowsletter Mega Crit wrote that the ordinary ones "give you a slight edge", while "run-defining Enchantments can be discovered in rare Events". Many carry a number, written after the name: Sharp 3 adds 3 damage, Swift 2 draws 2 cards.

A card holds one enchantment at a time. Asked in the August 2026 Neowsletter whether enchantments would ever stack, Yano answered that Mega Crit disallows it "as the probability of snowballing with a single card goes up", adding: "We want our players to experience deckbuilding rather than cardbuilding!" An event or relic that would enchant a card only offers cards it can enchant, and an event option is locked when you have none (Symbiote's "None of your Attacks can be Enchanted", in the event data).

Some enchantments only fit some cards. In the game data Corrupted, Instinct, Momentum, Sharp and Vigorous take Attacks, Imbued takes Skills, Royally Approved takes Attacks and Skills, Goopy takes Defends, Nimble cards that gain Block, and Spiral only a Basic Strike or Defend, which Mega Crit's v0.103.0 notes made the Spiraling Whirlpool event say plainly.

Source: Spire Codex (game data, v0.107.1) for the text, its relic and event data for the sources, read Oct 26, 2026. Event acts as the game data files them; events marked shared there (Self-Help Book, Stone of All Time, Symbiote) can appear in more than one act.

One relic rewards enchanting itself. The shop relic Mystic Lighter reads "Enchanted Attacks deal 9 additional damage" in the same data, so every Inky Shiv, Sharp Strike or Corrupted Attack hits harder with it.

Where enchantments come from

Events are the main source. Ten events in the game data offer an enchantment, often against a cost: Symbiote's Corrupted is free but every play of the card costs 2 HP; Stone of All Time takes 6 HP for Vigorous 8; Grave of the Forgotten gives Soul's Power with the curse Decay; the Waterlogged Scriptorium sells Steady for 55 or 99 Gold, prices Mega Crit's v0.102.0 notes cut from 65 and 155.

The Merchant sells five enchanting relics. Gnarled Hammer, Kifuda, Punch Dagger, Royal Stamp and Wing Charm are all shop relics in the relic data, and Mystic Lighter pays off enchanted Attacks; see Merchant and Rest Sites. The event relic Fresnel Lens, from the Underdocks event Drowning Beacon for 13 Max HP, puts Nimble 2 on every Block card you add.

The Ancients give the strongest ones. At the start of Acts 2 and 3 several Ancient relics enchant on pickup, and Neow's Silken Tress enchants the first card reward with Glam for all your Gold; each is listed on Neow and the Ancients. Pael's Growth (Clone) can multiply a card: PC Gamer's Harvey Randall writes that Clone can yield dozens of copies of a card if you keep using it at rest sites (May 15, 2026).

One card enchants mid-combat. The Silent's Blade of Ink (Rare, 1 Energy) adds 2(3) Inky Shivs to your Hand. Mega Crit called its v0.102.0 rework "an experiment with generating Enchanted cards mid combat" and asked players whether enchantments "are best left to things like Events and Relics". See Silent Cards.

Patch changes

Inky has changed three times. It arrived in the v0.102.0 beta (Apr 3, 2026) as "This card deals 2 additional damage and applies 1 Weak", reached the main branch with Major Update #1 (v0.103.2, Apr 17, 2026), and fell to +1 damage in the v0.105.0 beta, live on main since Major Update #2 (v0.107.1, Jun 19, 2026). On the public beta since v0.111.0 (Aug 14, 2026), "Inky enchantment no longer gives additional damage (still applies Weak)".

Corrupted's wording has not changed since launch; one fix touched it. The v0.108.0 beta notes (Jul 3, 2026) fixed "an issue where, if a card with Replay is enchanted with Corrupted, the player would lose extra HP even after the first play killed the last enemy": on that beta a Replay attack that kills the last enemy skips its remaining plays. On the main branch v0.107.1 the extra HP loss can still happen.

Instinct changed from a cost cut to double damage. The v0.100.0 beta (Mar 20, 2026) says "Instinct enchantment no longer reduces cost, instead doubles damage on enchanted Attacks", the version on main today.

Other enchantment changes:

Patch Change
v0.102.0 (Apr 3, 2026) Waterlogged Scriptorium's Steady prices cut to 55 and 99 Gold
v0.104.0 (Apr 24, 2026) Nutritious Soup's Strikes also deal 3 more damage (Tezcatara's Ember)
v0.105.0 (May 8, 2026) Neow's Silken Tress added (Glam on the first card reward)
v0.106.0 (May 22, 2026) Entrench can gain the extra Block from enchantments like Nimble
v0.109.0 (Jul 17, 2026, beta) Cloning cards copy before they are played, so Swift applies to the cloning player
v0.110.0 (Jul 31, 2026, beta) Beautiful Bracelet enchants 4 cards instead of 3, with Swift 2 instead of Swift 3
v0.111.0 (Aug 14, 2026, beta) Beautiful Bracelet's 4 cards are random instead of chosen; Inky loses its bonus damage

The v0.102.0 to v0.106.0 changes reached the main branch with Major Updates #1 and #2. The v0.108.0 to v0.111.0 changes are on the opt-in public beta only. Every patch is on Patches and Updates.

How afflictions work

An affliction is a penalty an enemy places on your cards. Mega Crit introduced them in its April 2025 Meowsletter: "A creature that wants you dead will 'Afflict' some of your cards in all sorts of mean ways", and said a similar unused system sat in the first game's code. Unlike enchantments, afflictions last only for a turn or while their enemy is alive, and they come from specific Bosses, Elites and Enemies.

Afflicted cards are marked on the card. The v0.102.0 beta added new visuals for Bound, Entangled, Galvanized, Hexed, Ringing and Smog, which Major Update #1 brought to everyone. The Silent's Nightmare, which adds copies of a chosen card next turn, removes an affliction from those copies since Major Update #2.

Every affliction

Affliction Effect (v0.107.1) Applied by Where
Bound Only 1 Bound card can be played each turn. Cards are un-Bound at end of turn. The Queen's Puppet Strings (Chains of Binding 3: "The first 3 cards drawn each turn are Afflicted with Bound") Glory boss
Entangled Costs an additional 1 Energy. No enemy in the v0.107.1 monster data applies it by name
Galvanized Take X damage when this card is played. Globe Head (Galvanic 6: "Powers are afflicted with Galvanized") Glory normal enemy
Hexed Add Ethereal to this card. Spectral Knight's Hex ("While Spectral Knight is alive, ALL your cards are Ethereal") Glory Elite (Knight Gang)
Ringing You can only play 1 card this turn. Ceremonial Beast's Beast Cry Overgrowth boss
Smog You cannot play additional Skills this turn. Clears at the end of the turn. Living Fog's Advanced Gas (Smoggy: "You can only play 1 Skill per turn") Underdocks normal enemy
Tainted Gain X Tainted when played (Tainted: take additional damage from Attacks this turn). Infested Prism (Vital Spark 2, 3 at Ascension: "ALL Skills are Tainted 2") Hive Elite

Infection is the odd one out. Mega Crit's v0.100.0 notes call it the "Infection affliction card overlay", but in the game data Infection is a card the Overgrowth Elite Phrog Parasite shuffles in, which deals 3 damage to you if it is in your Hand at the end of your turn; see Curses, Statuses and Quest Cards. Its overlay stops animating when Phobia Mode is on.

Some afflictions decide whole fights. The Ceremonial Beast's Ringing turn allows one card, so a big Block or Attack card has to be ready for it; the Queen binds your first three draws each turn; and while the Spectral Knight lives every card you keep at the end of the turn is Exhausted. Strategy for each fight is on Bosses and Elites.
